SSO Brian Arons awarded QSM in New Year's Honours
Brian Arons was recognised in the new Year's Honours list, receiving the Queen's Service Medal in recognition of 38 years or service and dedication.
Brian first joined the Wellington Fire Police in May 1975 and remained a member until 1992. The very next day he became a member of the Wellington City Rural Fire Force for eight years. He then rejoined the Wellington Fire Support Unit where for the last six years he has been Officer in Charge, with the rank of Senior Station Officer.
Brian was presented a medal and certificate by the Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae. His wife, their three children and Brian’s sister were also present at the ceremony.
After the ceremony, a luncheon was held in honour of the five Fire Service recipients . This was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon Peter Dunne, George Verry, Chief Executive of the UFBA, National Commander and Chief Executive of the Fire Service, Paul Baxter and other senior leaders.
